Established in 1978, the Black Forest Inn in Stanhope, NJ, offers an authentic taste of German–Continental cuisine—a blend of traditional German dishes with influences from neighboring France, Italy, and Eastern Europe, reflecting the rich culinary heritage of the "Heart of Europe."
For over three generations, the Aichem family has set the standard for fine European dining, emphasizing the finest, freshest ingredients, presented with simple elegance. The restaurant and its chefs have earned numerous accolades and awards from local media, critics, and, most meaningfully, its loyal patrons.
Family patriarch Chef Heinz Aichem, born and trained in Germany, led prestigious kitchens before fulfilling his vision of opening his own restaurant. His son, Heiner Aichem, honed his culinary skills in both Germany and France and now mentors the next generation—his son Heinrich and daughter Hailey—in the Black Forest Inn kitchen. Heiner’s wife, Holly, complements the culinary team by creating custom cakes and confections, while also managing the restaurant’s social media and online presence.
Barbara Aichem Koster, daughter of Heinz, manages the restaurant and specializes in party planning and special events coordination. Her husband, Scott, handles off-site catering functions and, together with Barbara, will be overseeing the Highlands to Hudson dining experience aboard Luxury Freedom Cruises departing from Jersey City, NJ.
